Bonzell Hairston

Bonzell Hairston, 58, of New Bethel Road, Alton, died Monday, April 22, 2013 at his home. He was born in Danville on Dec. 27, 1954, son of the late Minnie Lee Hairston Lipscomb and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by five sisters, Barbara Doomes and husband Lindsey, Julie Tucker and husband Ivan, all of Alton, Caroline Pointer and husband Gregory of South Boston, Shirleene Lawson and husband John of Durham, N.C., Juanita Thorpe of Alton; three brothers, Ben Hairston of Roxboro, N.C., Tommie Hairston of South Boston, Jerry Hairston and wife Charlene of Roxboro, N.C., other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Hairston and one brother, Moses Hairston.

A funeral will be held Saturday, April 27, 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Harvey Bigelow officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 1149 N. Bethel Road, Alton.

Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home.
