Calvin Benjamin Nobles, 89, of Halifax, formerly of Groton, N.Y., died May 7, 2011 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 1, 1921 in Dryden, N.Y., son of the late Bert Emmanuel Nobles and Mabel Marie Keller Nobles and was married to Eleanor Nichols Nobles. He was of the Methodist faith, retired from Cornell University, where he worked with the safety and security division and was an Army veteran of World War II.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Calvin B. Nobles Jr. and wife Jeannie of Halifax and James Nobles of Leesville, La., one daughter, Cindy N. Morris and husband Harper of Angier, N.C., eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Stanley Nobles of Groton, two sisters, Alice Rothwell of Puyallop, Wash., and Laura Stewart of Hartselle, Ala., other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at Halifax Memorial Gardens with Pastor Jeaux Simmons officiating.
