Defendant pleads guilty to murder in Boydton slaying

Man dies in northern Halifax County crash

A Campbell County man died Sunday afternoon in a car crash on Route 40 in northern Halifax County.

Carolyn Juanita Majors Coles of Halifax died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital at the age of 71. Born in Halifax County on Aug. 4, 1943 to the late Johnny Edward Majors and Edna Logan Majors, she was married to the late Brann Deford Coles and was a member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church. She was employed with the former Burlington Industries, Inc. and later with Georgia-Pacific in North Carolina.

Mrs. Coles is survived by a son, Brad Deford Coles and friend, Mary Simpson of Spotsylvania and a daughter, Angela Coles Motowski and husband, Matt of Dearborn, Mich., five grandchildren, one great grandchild, two step grandchildren, three brothers, William “Timmy” Majors, Thomas Majors and wife Betty and Theodore Majors and wife, Gracie, all of Halifax, a step sister, Sarah Jones of Hyattsville, Md., three aunts, Peggy Logan, Martha Logan and Joanna Starkey and a host of in-laws, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. at The Crawford House Chapel in Halifax with Rev. Alfred L. Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

Public viewing for Mrs. Coles will be Friday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at The Crawford House Chapel in Halifax. The family will receive friends at the service on Saturday.

Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home.
