Cecil Eugene Puryear

Cecil Eugene Puryear, 81, of Nelson, died Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.

Mr. Puryear was born in Mecklenburg County, March 6, 1936 to the late Orlander and Mary Hall Finley Puryear. He attended the schools of Mecklenburg County, and was a member of Wharton Memorial Baptist Church, Nelson. Mr. Puryear was formerly employed by Lawson and Sutton, Greensboro, N.C., and his favorite past time was playing his guitar.

He leaves to cherish his memories seven children, Cecil Puryear, James Puryear, Diane Stukes (Wardell), Shirley Coleman (Herbert), Steven Puryear (Vickey), Joe Puryear all of Buffalo Junction, and Patricia Sanford of Durham; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Susan Harris (Ralph) of Oxford; three brothers, Louis Puryear and Freddie Puryear (Mary) all of Buffalo Junction, and Tom Puryear of East Orange, N.J., and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Puryear was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Mae Puryear; daughter, Delores Puryear; son, Clifford Chris Perry and two grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Monday, March 5, at the chapel of C. H. Harris Funeral Home, Buffalo Junction with Jim White conducting the service.
