Cecile Henderson Shelton died peacefully on Sept. 12, 2014, at Roman Eagle Rehabilitation & Health Care Center, Inc. in Danville. Born on May 26, 1927 in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Satterfield and Eva Mae Henderson. She spent her entire life in south central Virginia except for the time that she attended college. She was married to Gallie Thomas Shelton, Jr. for 68 years who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by her son, Roy Thomas Shelton.

She attended Flora McDonald College (now St. Andrews Presbyterian University). She held several secretarial positions, including as secretary for Wilson Memorial Elementary School. She retired from Burlington Industries in Halifax, where she worked as a personnel assistant. After retirement, she and her husband relocated to Danville where they have lived for 23 years. She was a life-time member of Oak Level Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and was an active member of the Women of the Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Gloria Gibson, of Charlotte, N.C. and Linda Dunn, of Danville. She is also survived by her son-in-law, William E. (Scooter) Dunn and her grandchildren, Brooke Harrelson, of Charlotte and Hunter Dunn, of Danville. Additional survivors include her brothers-in-law, Earl Morris, of Danville, Ira Shelton (wife Gloria) and Ryland Shelton, both of Chatham, and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Lois H. Littlejohn and Janey H. Morris, and by her brother, Marion Easley (Mac) Henderson.

Special recognition and appreciation are given to the caregivers who have provided compassionate and loving care to Mr. and Mrs. Shelton for the past seven years. They are Shirley McCain, Chenise Blackwell, Rhonda Brown, Jessica Coleman, Cheryl Hunt, Gwen Lea, Sandra Waller, Georgetta Walton, Schinita Warner and Suzanne Woicikowfski. Appreciation is also given to Dr. James Milam and the East Wing staff at Roman Eagle for the care they provided.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Shelton will be held at Oak Level Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Melvin presiding. The family will greet visitors at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service.
