Cecile Jean Seamster Newbill

Cecile Jean Seamster Newbill, 81, of Scottsburg, died Monday, March 9, 2020. She was born in Halifax County on May 20, 1938, daughter of the late Rufus Havious Seamster and the late Willie Mae Wallace Seamster. She was married to the late Evan Hardy Newbill and was a member of Fork Baptist Church. Cecile enjoyed gardening, quilting and loved cutting her grass.

Ms. Newbill is survived by her children, Barbara “Gayle” N. Noble and husband Cris of Belhaven, N.C., Wanda N. Snead and husband Larry of Scottsburg, Sherri N. Tessari and husband David of Oxford, N.C., Etta “Cricket” N. Miles and husband Greg of South Boston, Evan Michael Newbill of Scottsburg; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandy Jean Newbill and her siblings Virginia Bragg, Janie Compton, Audrey White and John “Pete” McDaniel.

A funeral was held Wednesday, March 11, at 2 p.m. at Fork Baptist Church with Pastor Cris Noble officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends Wednesday, one hour prior to service, at Fork Baptist Church and other times at the home of Wanda Snead, 1129 MacDonald Road, Scottsburg.
