Charlie D. Perkins

Charlie D. Perkins, 77, of Vernon Hill, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at VCU, Richmond. He was born Aug. 29, 1936 in Halifax County, a son of the late Isaac Leonidas Perkins and Ethel Perkins Perkins. He was married to Carolyn Womack Perkins, was a member of Centerville Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Angelia Perkins of Vernon Hill, Kristie Perkins Carlson and Jeff of South Boston; one son, Gregory Shane Perkins and Jennifer of Vernon Hill; eight grandchildren, Erika Conner, Jake and Chae Bailey, Cheyenne Perkins, Kylie Conner, Zack and Austin Carlson, Elijah Roark; two great-grandchildren, Janaeh Bailey and Mila Conner; two sisters, Mabel Conner of Halifax and Hazel Hersman of Richmond. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Christopher Perkins, Andrew Perkins and Daniel Perkins.

A funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 13, 11 a.m. at Centerville Baptist Church with Rev. Todd McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Sept. 12, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home, 1051 Loop Road, Vernon Hill.
