Charlotte Bennett Lewis

Mrs. Charlotte Bennett Lewis, age 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010 at her home and birthplace, 1051 Hendricks Road, Halifax. She was born March 28, 1931 to the late Henry J. Bennett and the late Lizzie Younger Bennett, and was married to Jerry M. Lewis. Mrs. Lewis was a lifelong member of McKendree United Methodist Church where she served as organist/pianist for many years. She was a retiree of Burlington Industries.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Patricia B. Bradshaw and husband, Lloyd of Alton, and Carolyn B. Strohm and husband, Jay of Halifax; one son, Ralph Lee “Butch” Barker Jr. and wife Billie of Halifax; one step-daughter, Cynthia Poole; one step-son, Jay Lewis; one sister, Justyne B. Fisher and husband, Joe T. Fisher Jr.; seven grandchildren, Tracey Reaves, Christy Sherrill, Jason Strohm, Brandy Conner, Nick Strohm, Lee Barker and A. J. Barker; six step-grandchildren, Stephanie Lewis, Jamie Lewis, Jared Lewis, Lynsey Lewis, Christen Martin and Chelsea Poole; by sixteen great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at McKendree United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Stewart and Rev. Brian Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall prior to the service from 12:30-2 p.m. and at other times at the home of Jay and Caroly Strohm, 1051 Hendricks Road, Halifax.

The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Halifax Regional Hospice, 2204 Wilborn Ave., South Boston, VA 24592.
