Four days, three fatal crashes

A Clarksville teen died Friday in Buffalo Junction wreck, the first of three deadly car crashes in Mecklenburg County in the past week.

Clara Belle Hayes, 82, of Clarksville, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 at her residence. Ms. Hayes was born in Mecklenburg County on June 19, 1935 to the late Herbert L. and Jennie Hayes Parrish. She attended the schools of Mecklenburg County and was a retiree of Amtrak.

Cherishing her memories are her children, Thelma Fuller (William), Teresa Freeman (John), Dorice Hayes and Annie Fuller (Ralph) all of Mount Vernon, N.Y., Kenneth Hayes (Mary) of Pennsylvania, and Alma L. Mayo of Baskerville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Parrish of South Hill and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Hayes was preceded in death by four brothers, James, George, Joe and Willie Parrish; five sisters, Mamie P. Smith, Louise Simmons, Odessa Leggins, Corine Elena Parrish and Alma Shirley Taylor.

A funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City with Rev. Andy Hargrove officiating. Burial will follow in Williams Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Chase City.

Public viewing for family and friends will be held on Thursday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
