Clarence Lee Barnette, Sr., 72, of Chase City, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019 at VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill.

Mr. Barnette was born in Mecklenburg County, on July 6, 1947 to the late Howard and Glinis Oliver Barnette. At an early age, he joined Concord Baptist Church in Chase City, and was a graduate of West End High School. Mr. Barnette was a former employee of Burlington Industries and Lewis Tree Service, and was a veteran of the United States Army.

Cherishing his memories are his wife, Joyce Hayes Barnette of Chase City, two sons, Clarence Lee Barnette Jr. of Richmond, and Michael Chavolus Hayes of Lawrenceville, two daughters, Tamika Barnette of Chase City, and Latorya Barnette of Richmond, 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marvin Oliver (Mary Anne) and Ernest Hatcher (Annie) all of Chase City, four brothers-in-law, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A funeral was held Saturday, Nov. 16, at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, with Rev. Andy Hargrove officiating. Burial followed in Williams Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
