Clarence Roosevelt Hayes, 83, of Chase City, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019 at Sentara Meadowview Terrace.

Mr. Hayes was born in Chase City, March 5, 1936 to the late Clyde and Ruth E. Nelson Hayes. He attended the schools of Mecklenburg County and was a member of Berean Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, and western movies.

He is survived by two sons, Shaheed Hayes (Crystal) of Newark, N.J. and Randy Hayes (Serena) of Irvington, N.J., eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his first wife, Elgie Hinnant Hayes; his second wife, Catherine Hayes along with 13 siblings.

A funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m. at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home, Chase City with Rev. Marvin Harris delivering the eulogy. Interment will be private.

Public viewing will begin 10:00 a.m. Friday.
