Clyde Douglas Estes, 94, of South Boston, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2019. He was born in Halifax County on April 14, 1925, son of the late David Hailey Estes and the late Kate Irene Wilborn Estes. Mr. Estes was married to the late Estelle Hope Shelton Estes and was a member of Ingram Pentecostal Holiness Church. He served in the United States Army during World War II, 9th Division “Old Reliables”.

Mr. Estes is survived by his sons, William Kenneth Estes and wife Donna of South Boston and Mark Stephen Estes and wife Barbara of South Boston; four grandchildren, Melissa Hazelwood (Clint), Stephanie Clark (Christopher), Cameron Estes Shelton (Jamie) and Beth Estes; seven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Elvis Tremaine Estes and Anna Wilborn Hargis.

A funeral was held Saturday, Aug. 3, at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Sexton officiating. Burial followed in Halifax Memorial Gardens with Military Rites.

The family received friends one hour prior to service Saturday at Powell Funeral Home and other times at 906 Berry Hill Church Road, South Boston.
