Danet Powell Irby of Roxboro, N.C., and formerly of Halifax County, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017 at the Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, N.C. She was born in Halifax County on Aug. 10, 1948 and was 68 years old. She was the daughter of the late Calvin Coolidge Powell and Sallie Hazelwood Powell and was married to the late Wayne Marlin Irby. She was a member of the Roxboro Church of God and was a former assistant manager of Hardees in South Boston.

Survivors include a son, Donald Brown and wife Teresa of Alton, a daughter, Tammy F. Jones and husband Simon of South Boston, her mother, Sallie Hazelwood Powell of Wake Forest, N.C., two step daughters, Shawnee I. Francis of South Boston and Renee I. Hopkins Walker and husband Joe of Zebulon, N.C., a step son, Jeffrey “Scottie” Fallen and wife Cynthia of Richmond, two sisters, Vickie P. Harp and husband Rodney of Wake Forest, N.C., Lupino P. Wesley and husband Curtis of Roxboro, N.C., three brothers,Calvin D. Powell, Ronald G. Powell and Gary Dean Powell and wife Debra, all of Roxboro, N.C., a special friend, Jeff Stewart and family, nine grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 9, at 2:00 p.m. at the South Boston Church of God with Bishop Rodney Harp, Bishop Curtis Wesley, Bishop J. Harold Palmer, and Bishop T. Wayne Daniels officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the South Boston Church on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and at other times at the home of Tammy and Simon Jones, 115 Wood Court, South Boston.
