David Leon Long, 62, of Richmond and formerly of Chase City died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020 at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, Richmond.

Mr. Long was born in Chicago, July 22, 1958 to the late Verdell Long Dixon. He was raised in Chase City by his grandparents, the late George “Buddy” and Alberta Long. Mr. Long was a 1976 graduate of Bluestone Senior High School in Skipwith, and a member of Concord Baptist Church in Chase City. Upon relocating to Richmond, he held various jobs as a grocery store attendant, cook, catering assistant, florist and landscaper. He enjoyed watching sports on television, as well as the drama series, Law and Order: SVU.

He leaves to cherish his memory his caregivers, Sherita Rodwell and her brother, Raymond Rodwell, both of Richmond; his cousin, Linda Smith McGowan of Reisterstown, Md., and a great-aunt, Christine Long of Chase City. Additionally, dedicated friends to include Monte Gibbs and family, “Tu-Tu,” The Keene Family, and Mrs. Betty Bell and family; a dedicated cousin, Rufus Atkins, as well as the Gordon family, and a host of other cousins, relatives and friends.

In addition to his mother and grandparents, he was preceded in death by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, Chase City with Rev. Reginald Dodson officiating.
