Murder suspect in Halifax County turns himself in

Donny Ray Bowen, 30 of Roxboro, N.C. died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Person Memorial Hospital. Born in Almanace County, he was the son of Wendy and Haywood Thaxton of Roxboro and Ricky Bowen of Durham, N.C. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Dorothy “Dot” Bowen and had worked as an insurance salesman. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Bowen is survived by his parents and one sister, Cindy Williams and husband Chris of Roxboro, a brother, Jason Clayton, also of Roxboro and his maternal grandparents, David and Geraldine Clay of Hurdle Mills, N.C. and three nieces.

A funeral for Mr. Bowen will be held Wednesday, March 30at 2 p.m. at Brooks & White Chapel with the Rev. Frankie Reaves officiating. Burial will follow at Ephesus Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at Brooks & White Chapel and at other times at the home of Cindy Williams, 75 Schuller’s Point, Drive, Roxboro.
