Doris Lowery Bowen

Doris Lowery Bowen of 103 Rosehill Drive, South Boston, formerly of Virgilina, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 at the age of 89. She was born in Granville County, N.C., on Oct. 15, 1923 to the late Henry Thomas Lowery and the late Lillian Talley Lowery and was married to the late Harold Mason Bowen. Mrs. Bowen was a homemaker and a member of North Fork Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas O Bowen Sr. and wife Linda, Harold R. Bowen and wife Dorothy, Ronnie R. Bowen and wife Kathy, Vance B. Bowen and wife Rita, all of Virgilina, and Cecil L. Bowen and wife Ramona of Alton; three sisters, Mary Dill of Danville, McLean Poole of Granville County, and Annette Beaver of Colonial Heights; 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, two grandsons, Terry Mason Bowen and Clint E. Bowen, two brothers, Thomas Junior Lowery and Gerald Lowery Sr. and two great-great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Friday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at North Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Welch and Rev. Raymond Wooten officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday night at Brooks Funeral Home from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
