Edward Luther Matze died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017.

Luther was a member of the Masonic Lodge #77. He was a World War II veteran and participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy at Omaha Beach.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Stephen E. Matze of Suffolk, and Stuart Matze (Loren) of Tyner N.C., brothers, Kenneth Matze of Richmond, and Bill Matze (Dody) of Roanoke, sister, Mary Setzer of Mooresville N.C., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, William and Blanche Matze, his wife, Francis Matze, two brothers, Mervin Matze and Douglas Matze, and sister, Margaret Lipe.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 1 p.m. at R.W. Baker & Co., Funeral Home and Crematory in Suffolk, with Rev. Myrtrle Hatcher officiating. Burial will be held Thursday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m. at Highland Burial Park, Danville, with Rev. Clint Hopkins officiating.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 2, from 6:30-8 p.m. at R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory.

Memorial donations in his honor may be made to Parkinson’s Research.
