Edith Garrett Willie

Mrs. Willie was born in Halifax County on June 29, 1918 and was the daughter of the late Walter Garrett and Mary Alice Coleman Garrett. She was married to the late Henry Webster Willie and was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church. Mrs. Willie was a retired nurse.
Mrs. Willie is survived by a daughter: Oveta Jenkins and husband, Linzell; a son: Henry W. Willie Jr. and wife, Kerri; three nephews, Bobby Lanier, Walter Lanier and Willie Lanier; a niece: LaQuita Lanier; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Willie was preceded in death by one sister, Florine Garrett Lanier.
A funeral will be held Monday, Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church with Rev. Alfred Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends was on Sunday at Jeffress Funeral Home chapel.
