Elish Howard “Buster” Dawson of Scottsburg died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018. He was born in Pittsylvania on April 19, 1939 and was 78 years of age. He was the son of the late Albert Dewey Dawson and the late Lena Betterton Dawson. He was married to Phyllis Fisher Dawson.

He was a member of Winns Creek Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher and deacon. He also was a United States Navy and National Guard veteran.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Dawson is survived by two sons, Dwight Andrew Dawson and wife Lori of South Boston, Darryl Scott Dawson and wife Donna of Halifax, one grandchild, Tori Michelle Dawson, a sister, Patricia D. Bordeaux and husband Donald of Midlothian.

He was preceded in death by his beloved feline companion, Simba.

A funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Winns Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Kopko officiating. Burial to follow in church cemetery with military rites.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at his home, 5136 Clays Mill Road, Scottsburg.
