Erma Joyner Barnes, 88, of South Boston, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019. She was born in Isle of Wright County on Feb. 1, 1930, daughter of the late John Quincy Joyner and the late Naomi Joyner. She was married to the late William Arthur Barnes and was of the Baptist faith.

Ms. Barnes is survived by her children, Tom Anderson and wife Linda of Nathalie, Michael P. Anderson of Gretna, Carol Wade and husband Jimmy of Halifax; six grandchildren, Tammy Anderson, Ginger Hillsman, Thomas “T.T.” Anderson, III, James Wade, Shannon Salley and Cynthia Lynn Womack; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.

A funeral was held Friday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alfred Reamer officiating. Burial followed in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth.

The family received friends one hour prior to service at Powell Funeral Home.
