Estelle Marie Jones Kirby

Estelle Marie Jones Kirby, 72, of Swain Road, Halifax, died Saturday, June 23, 2018 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on June 9, 1946, a daughter of the late Alonzo Jones and Eliza Clark Jones Lenning. She was first married to Eugene Smith and later married John Kirby. She was a member of Union Grove CME Church.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Kirby is survived by one daughter, Violet Smith Garner of Crystal Hill; two sons, Riley Donell Smith, Sr. of Danville and Eugene Wendell Smith of Nathalie; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Douglas Jones of Roxboro, N.C., Robert Jones and Jessie Jones (Deloise), of Halifax, William Jones of Brookneal; four sisters, Catherine Dunkley of Nathalie, Emma Henry (Shirley) of Washington, DC, Annie Barksdale (Calvin) of Danville and Margaret Pounds (Jasper) of South Boston; one uncle, James Clark of Brookneal; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends, including the devoted Eliza Ann Boyd.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Joe and John Jones and three sisters, Mary Carr, Fannie Lewis and Elizabeth Womack.

A funeral will be held Friday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Union Grove CME Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be Thursday, June 28 from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
