Frances Benson Dyer, 97, of 104 Carrington Street, South Boston died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on Sept. 14, 1913, a daughter of the late Mary Benson and was married to the late George Washington Dyer Sr. She was the oldest living member of McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Robert L. Dyer and wife Brenda of Ashland; six grandchildren, Deb Wood, Cynthia Dyer Fallen, Tracey White, Michael C. Dyer, Donald Dyer, Brandon Dyer; three step-grandchildren, Richard Powell, Angela Spangler and Gloria DeYoung. She was preceded in death by two sons, Buddy Dyer and George Dyer, Jr., one daughter, Anna Marie Wood, one granddaughter, Tina Dyer Smith and one great-grandson, Tyler Matherly.

Graveside services were held Saturday at Halifax Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ann Norton officiating.
