Frances Dawson Crowder Glass, 81, of Halifax died Thursday, April 7, 2011 at her home. She was born July 26, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, a daughter of the late Ross Albert Dawson and the late Nettie Wicker Dawson. She was married first to the late Alfred “Bill” Crowder and then to the late Richard Thomas Glass. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Crowder Lewis of Halifax; one grandson, Jason Lewis; four brothers, W.E. “Punk” Dawson of Rustburg, Guy D. “Pat” Dawson and wife Thelma of Rustburg, Curtis A. Dawson and wife Carolyn of Gladys, Lacy A. Dawson; four sisters, Lorean D. Wade of Nathalie, Margaret D. Reese and husband Buddy of Nathalie, Lois D. Tharpe and husband Tucker of Rustburg, Betty D. Terry of Gretna; and 20 nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Chris DeRoco and Rev. Glen Lutz officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Bethel Baptist Church, the Halifax County Cancer Association or the Halifax Regional Hospice.
