Frances “Polly” Oliver Owen, 74, of Virgilina, died on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.

She was born in Halifax County on Oct. 16, 1942, a daughter of the late Joseph Oliver and Maggie Chandler Oliver. She was married to Roy C. Owen and was a member of Blue Wing Grove Baptist Church, where she was a dedicated member and served as chairman of the deaconess board.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Owen is survived by four grandchildren, Chaquia Gee, Trinity Owen, Charity Owen and Tre’ Fitzgerald; two great-grandchildren, Cassiyah Fitzgerald and Kaidyn Fitzgerald; two sisters, Margaret Owen of Richmond and Gwendolyn Ragland (Jimmie) of Virgilina; one brother, Robert Oliver (Julia) of Alton; two devoted god daughters, LeShina Medley (LeVar) and Brittney Shuler (Kevin); one devoted godson, Jermaine Garrett (Lorickica); her mother-in-law: Ella Owen; one brother-in-law, George Owen (Paulette) of Richmond; one sister-in-law, Tessie Rogers (Joseph) of Virgilina and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one son, Claybon Owen and one brother, James Oliver.

A funeral will be held Friday, Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at Blue Wing Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Graham Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be Thursday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at 1105 Zion Hill Church Road, Virgilina.
