George Arthur Foster, 88, of Clover died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at Sentara Woodview. He was born in Halifax County on May 20, 1929, son of the late John Arthur Foster and Edna Powell Foster. He was married to Listene Hunt Foster and was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Foster is survived by five sons, James Foster and wife Mamie of Randolph, Leroy Foster and wife Shelby of Clover, David Foster and wife Carla of Netherlands, Holland, Bobby Foster of the home of Charles Foster and wife Nicole of South Boston; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Betty Delaware and husband John Henry of Clover, Agnes Strange of South Boston, Annie Clark of Clover, Irene Edmonds and husband James of Alexandria and Nadine Staten of South Boston; three brothers, Robert Henry Foster and wife Jamesenna of North Carolina, Burrell Foster and wife Mary of Hampton, and Willie Foster of Clover; one daughter-in-law, Emma Foster; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, three aunts, two uncles, and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Annie Mae Foster and one son, George Foster Jr., two brothers, Sam and John Davis Foster, one sister, Bernice Foster Dixon and one great-granddaughter, Shantel Foster.

A funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Alfred Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be Friday beginning at 10 a.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 7-8 p.m.
