George Joseph Scheier Sr. / November 05, 2018

George Joseph Scheier Sr., 90, of Buffalo Junction, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018. He was born in Philadelphia, on Dec. 16, 1927, a son of the late Stephon Joseph Scheier and the late Josephine Knollmyer Scheier. He was married to the late Lucy King Scheier. He was a member of Jeffress Baptist Church at Boydton and former fire chief at Turbeville Volunteer Fire Department. He is remembered by many having enjoyed a life-long career as a superintendent for J.E. Burton Construction Company and was justly proud of the company’s many accomplishments. He was also a United States Army World War II veteran.

Mr. Scheier is survived by his children, Catherine Younger and husband Billy of Louisville, Ky; Margaret Caglayan and husband Alper of Biddeford, Maine, Susan Powell and husband Darrell of South Boston, George Scheier Jr. and wife Lynn of Danville, James Scheier and wife June of Danville, John Scheier and fiancée Teresa Wright Vaughan of South Boston, Robert Scheier of Halifax, Debra Allgood and husband Kenneth of Mooresville, N.C., Keith King of Macon, Ga., Jeff King and fiancée Cindy of Bullock, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Wendy Powell Scheier of South Boston; 23 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Paul J. Scheier, Evelyn S. Rogers and Betty S. Allen and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Scheier and step-children, Diane Martin and Charles King, siblings Lou Scheier, Raymond J. Scheier, Stephen Scheier and Josephine S. Hutwagner.

A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. T. Wayne Daniel officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to service at Powell Funeral Home.
