George Stover Sims, 81, of Edmunds Street, South Boston died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at his home. He was born in Roanoke on Dec. 16, 1929, son of the late Raymond Elmer Sims Sr. and Barbara Streat Sims. He was married to the late Dorothy Jane Harris Sims and was an Army veteran.

He is survived one daughter, Sarah B. Jones and husband Jimmie of Washington, DC; four sons, Charles W. Sims of South Boston, George S. Sims Jr. of Milton, N.C., Edward L. Sims and Raymond E. Sims and wife Rosa, all of South Boston; one sister, Mary C. Coleman of Virgilina; one brother, Willie Lee Sims and wife Alice of South Boston; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond E. Sims Jr. and Alexander Sims.

A funeral will be held Thursday, April 21 at 1 p.m. at The Crawford House, Halifax with Rev. John Hubbard officiating. Burial will follow in the Crossroad Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Rites by American Legion Post 99.
