George William Morris, 84, of 4187 Red Bank Road, Virgilina died June 6, 2010 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born Oct. 10, 25 in Halifax County, son of the late Asa Howard Morris and Elsie O’Geary Morris and was married to Ruth Geary Morris. He was a member of Union Christian Church, was a Navy World War II Veteran with the USS Arctic and was a member of the Square Dance Club in Clarksville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Phyllis Hudson and husband Curtis of Virgilina, Pamela Eakes and husband Harvey of South Boston; step-sons, Michael Puryear and wife Gwynne of Roxboro, N.C., Dan Puryear of Richmond, Jamie Puryear and Jeff Puryear, both of Cluster Springs; step-daughters, Jennifer Vinciguerra and husband Todd of Mission Vejo, Calif. and Beth Mullen and husband Ken of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a sister, Doris Averette of Virgilina; grandchildren, Jennifer Lowery and husband Chris, Anthony Scott Hudson, Joan Cannon and husband Rob, Jacqueline Wilkins and husband Scott, Bridgett Eakes, Laura Eakes and Anne Harvey Eakes; great-grandchildren, Andrew Talley, Maci Lowery, Laci Wilkins, Ashton Hudson, Ryan Cannon; great-great-grandchild, Jackson Talley; mother-in-law, Violet Geary; step-grandchildren, Krissie Duke, Shannon Puryear, Michael Scott Puryear, Mark Mullen, Kaden Vinciguerra, Nicki Vinciguerra and Aaron Puryear. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Elliott Morris.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at Union Christian Church with Rev. Sidney Rodriguez, Rev. Norman Talley and Rev. Scott Welch officiating. Burial followed in the Virgilina Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 266, Virgilina, VA 24598.
