Gerry Wayne Bowers

Gerry Wayne “G” Bowers, 67, of Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2020 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Mecklenburg County on Feb. 22, 1952, son of the late Willie Alfred Bowers and Marjorie Willard Bowers. Mr. Bowers was married to Joan Pointer Bowers, was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Revlon Cosmetics, Oxford, N.C.

Mr. Bowers is survived by his wife, Joan P. Bowers of the home; one daughter, Marjorie Bowers-Stanley (Vincent) of South Boston; one granddaughter, Shauna M. Bowers of Richmond; four brothers, Larry Bowers (Cathy) and Elliott Bowers, all of Richmond, Willie Bowers (Anna) of Lanexa and Richard Bowers (Jacqueline) of Chesterfield; three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, including Chantay Goode of Japan and Elliott Bowers Jr. of South Boston, whom he helped raise, and other friends, including his fishing partners Ronald Foster, Earl Wilkerson and Fred Clauden.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Louise Bowers.

A funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Frederick Eily, pastor and Rev. Dr. Gerald Franklin, eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be Friday, Feb. 21 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, 403 Rosser Avenue, South Boston.
