Gertrude Trent Gillispie, age 97, of Chase City, died Monday, March 11, 2019. She was born April 12, 1921 in Charlotte County, and was the daughter of the late Paul Jackson Trent and the late Gracie Jane Inge Trent. She was a charter member of West End Baptist Church in Brookneal, although she has not been able to attend for numerous years due to her age and physical condition.  She was a homemaker and loved her family, friends, and her church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, word search puzzles, and listening to music.

Gertrude is survived by two daughters, Marie Gillispie Tanner of Emporia, and Brenda Gillispie Chapman of Chase City, three grandchildren, Donna Tanner Taylor and husband, Tony of Lawrenceville, Rene’ Chapman Jarman of Boydton, and John O. Tanner Jr. and wife, Kaye of Clover, five great-grandchildren, Corey Farley and wife, Meghan of Raleigh, N.C., Courtney Farley and fiancé, Zack Lynch of Jarratt, Chelsea Jarman Murphy and husband, Kyle of Henderson, N.C., J.P. Jarman and wife, Arianne of Traverse City, Mich., and Kaylenn Olivia Tanner of Clover, and one great-great-granddaughter, Eve Noelle Jarman. She is also survived by her sister, Shirley Trent Reese Hensley of Rustburg, numerous nieces and nephews; and devoted friend, Audrey Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther White Gillispie; son-in-law, Claude Chapman; brother, Edward Lee Trent; and sister, Verna Trent Tharpe.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, March 13, at 3 First Baptist Church in Chase City with Dr. Tom Cribb and Rev. Gerald Pearce officiating. Interment will follow in Wylliesburg Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
