Gladys Compton Thompson

Gladys Compton Thompson, 97, of South Boston, died Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Sentara Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on Dec. 12, 1921, daughter of the late Beverly Lee Compton Sr. and the late Leila Epps Compton. She was married to the late John Thomas Thompson Sr. and was a member of of Beth Car Baptist Church.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by one son, John Thomas Thompson Jr. and wife Phyllis Newby Thompson of Atherton, Calif., grandchildren, Seth Thomas Thompson (Eryn) of Minneapolis, Lauren Elizabeth Thompson of New York City, Corbin Rose Franklin (Tyler) of Tappahannock, Sarah Nelson Thompson of Washington, DC.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Baker Compton Inge and Hilda Compton Farmer and four brothers, Beverly Compton Jr., Lewis Compton, Herman Compton and Fulton Compton.

A funeral will be held Thursday, May 9, at 2 p.m. at Beth Car Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Eldridge Cullum officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
