Murder suspect in Halifax County turns himself in

Gloria Womack Johnson of White Ridge Road, Sutherlin died March 29, 2011 at Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville at the age of 67. Born in Halifax County on April 27, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Willie Farmer and Elsie Womack Farmer. She was married to the late Rudolph Johnson and was a member of the Apostolic Faith Temple in Ringgold.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Betty P. Featherston and her husband, Rev. Bruce Featherston of Alton a sister, Margaret Safewright of South Boston, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren, her goddaughter, Victoria Owens of South Boston and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the devoted John H. Petty of South Boston. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie W. Ford, Elaine W. Lee and Maria F. Traynham.

A funeral for Mrs. Johnson will be held Sunday, April 3, at 3 p.m. at the Apostolic Faith Temple in Ringgold with Bishop W.A. Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in Murphy’s Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of Rev. and Mrs. Bruce Featherson, 2020 Alton Post Office Road, Alton. Public viewing for family and friends will be Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
