Hampton Hudson Newbill Jr.

Hampton Hudson “Skip” Newbill Jr., 79, died Monday, May 15, 2017. A native of Scottsburg, he was the son of the late Hampton H. and Livian Wimbish Newbill. Skip completed the apprenticeship program at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth and retired as the East Coast Division Manager with NAVSEA DET PERA(CV), where he received the Department of the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award. He was a member of Liberty- Harbour View Church in Suffolk.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Jane Kell Newbill; daughter, Marcia L. Newbill; son, Hampton H. “Tony” Newbill III and wife Theresa; two grandchildren, Mary Kendall and Matthew C. Newbill; sister, Mary Ann Newbill Carlton and husband Bennie L. Carlton of South Boston; niece, Anne Carlton Wales and husband Morris of Henrico; nephews Ben Carlton and wife Linda of Little Plymouth; and Travis Carlton and wife Janet of Mosely; cousins, Louise Wimbish Jennings of Harrisonburg, Carlyle Wimbish and wife Jo of South Boston, Louis Wimbish and wife Karen of Charlotte, N.C., and Louis Lacy and wife Joyce of Winchester.

A church service will be held on Thursday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Scottsburg. The family will receive friends the hour before the service.

Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Scottsburg.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the International Mission Board, 3806 Monument Avenue, Richmond, VA 23230.
