Murder suspect in Halifax County turns himself in

Helen Elizabeth Martin of New Jersey, formerly of Halifax County, died March 18, 2011 in South Amboy, N.J. at the age of 63. Born in Halifax County on June 5, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Mattie Martin. She attended the local public schools and joined Trinity Baptist Church at a young age.

Ms. Martin is survived by her daughter, Kim West, two sisters, Rosa Lee of South Boston and Louise Cheatham of Monmouth Junction, N.J., two devoted cousins, Lillian Ames of Monmouth Junction, N.J. and Eric Fauulkner of Washington, DC, two brothers-in-law, Howard Lee and Kenneth Cheatham and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service for Ms. Martin will be held Saturday, March 26 at 11 a.m. at Rose Garden cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Chandler officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard and Rosa Lee, 2302 Sutphin Road, South Boston.
