Helen Jackson Atkins Gibson, 96, of Red Oak, died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2018 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, Lynchburg.

Mrs. Gibson was born in Red Oak, Sept. 18, 1921 to the late Herbert and Grace Watkins Atkins. She attended the schools of Charlotte County,and was a member of Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Gibson was a World War II Army veteran and a homemaker.

Cherishing her memories are one son, Edward Gibson of New York City, one daughter, Rachel Winston of Richmond, six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters; I. Belle Atkins of Red Oak, and Venoy Barbour of Babylon, N.Y., one daughter-in-law, Pamela Gibson of Silver Springs, Md., one sister-in-law, Albena Atkins, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gibson was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Robert Gibson Jr.; children, Rueben Dale Gibson, Daniel Robert Gibson III, Sheila Saleem, Sheldon Gibson and Davis Gibson, and five siblings

A funeral was held Tuesday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at Thyne Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Reginald Davis and Rev. Carl Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
