Man sentenced to year in prison on drug count

Ten arrested, seven more sought in drug, firearms sweep

A long-term investigation has resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals in the Southside Virginia region on approximately 31 drug and firearm charges.

Victim identified in July 6 death in La Crosse

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has identified Jessica Stroud, 35, of Waynesboro as the victim in a July 6 death in La Crosse that police describe as suspicious.

Inez Guill Collie Noblin

Inez Guill Collie Noblin of South Boston died Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on June 26, 1922 and was 96 years old. She was the daughter of the late Luther Holt Guill and Eunice Marie Allen Guill and was married to the late Alvin Noblin. She was a member of First Baptist Church and worked for Leggett Department Store which later became Belks for over 39 years.

Survivors include two sisters, Lillie Mae Jones and Peggy Guill Snead, both of South Boston; nieces and nephews, Brenda Lowery and husband Fred of South Boston; DeLain Dillow and husband Todd of South Boston; Janet Gravitt and husband Donald of South Boston; Ronnie Newbill of South Boston, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Lou Collie Crews; and siblings, Robert Lee Guill, Nelson Guill, Hugh Guill, Lucille Guill, and Elsie White.

A funeral will be held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Pat Neilson and Rev Susan Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Tuesday, June 4 for one hour prior to the service and other times at the home of her sister Peggy Snead, 1105 Owens Avenue, South Boston.
