Irene Dunaway Duffer

Irene Dunaway Duffer of 1185 Ponderosa Road, South Boston died Friday, April 9, 2010 at Halifax Regional Hospital. Born in Halifax County on December 13, 1923, she was 86 at the time of her death. A retired employee of Craddock & Terry Shoe Company, she attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was also a hairdresser at Irene’s Styling Nook.

Mrs. Duffer is survived by two sons, Aubrey Duffer and wife, Carolyn and Wayne Duffer and wife, Vickie, all of South Boston, four granddaughters, Michelle Thumes, Leslie Bohanon, Sharon Evans and Shelia Trent, and three grandsons, Kyle Duffer, Ernest Walker and Kenneth McCormick and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Edward Duffer, her parents, Willie Dunaway and Florence Lacks Dunaway, a grandson, Bryan Duffer, four brothers and three sisters and a daughter, Shirley McCormick.

A funeral service for Mrs. Duffer was conducted on Sunday, April 11 at 2 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Barbara L. Parker officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge cemetery. The family received friends at the home of Aubrey and Carolyn Duffer, 1193 Ponderosa Road, South Boston. On-line condolences may be made at http://www.brooksfhinc.com.
