Jackie Allen Chappell, 76, of Vernon Hill, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018 at Duke University Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on June 26, 1941, a son of the late Robert Woodson Chappell and Nannie Rutledge Chappell McKinney. He was married to Nancy Richie Chappell, was a member and Elder at Oak Level Presbyterian Church and was a life member of the Oak Level Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Chappell is survived by his wife, Nancy; two daughters, Becky C. Lewis (Ricky) and Rhonda C. Hunt (Luke), all of Vernon Hill; one sister, Ann C. Horton of Halifax; one brother, Roderick “Pete” Chappell (Nannie Sue) of Halifax; two grandchildren, Garland Comer (Brittany) and Mandy Lee Lewis, all of Vernon Hill; and two great-grandchildren, Paisley Comer and Tinley Comer, both of Vernon Hill.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Woodson Chappell Jr.

A funeral was held Sunday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. at Oak Level Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Kisner, Rev. Dr. Ed Melvin and Rev. Bill Wilkins officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends at Powell Funeral Home Saturday, Jan. 20 from 6-8:30 p.m. and other times at his home.
