James Columbus “Jake” Bebber, 94, of Martinsville died Monday, April 30, 2018 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born Nov. 10, 1923, in South Boston to the late Howard and Jane Osbourne Bebber.

Mr. Bebber proudly served his country as a Marine during World War II, when he was injured in the third wave in Iwo Jima. He was an avid striper fisherman and was heavily involved with his church, Cherry Hill United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his daughter, Jane Walrod (John Walrod); two sons, Dennis Bebber (Clare) and Don Bebber (Dianne); step-brother, Carl Vance Bebber; nine grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nannie Loftis Bebber; a son, James Columbus Bebber Jr.; his sister, Virginia B. Baynes; and his brother, Howard Bebber Jr.

A memorial service will be Saturday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at Cherry Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Pat Nielsen officiating. Burial will follow at the church.
