James Edward Hazelwood

James Edward Hazelwood, 94, of Halifax, died Thursday, April 4, 2018. He was born in Halifax County on Sept. 7, 1923, a son of the late John Thomas Hazelwood and Carrie Owen Hazelwood. He was married to the late Cora Lee Powell Hazelwood and was a member of Church of God of Prophecy.

Mr. Hazelwood is survived by one daughter, Janie Guill and husband Wayne of Halifax; two sons, James (Bumpsie) Hazelwood and wife Eva of Scottsburg and Jerry Lee Hazelwood and wife Margie of New Jersey; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and extended family, Ed, Alicia, Owen and Harrison Hutchins of Raleigh, N.C., and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two infant children, William Warren Hazelwood and Helen Jean Hazelwood; brothers, Willie, Johnnie, William, Josh, Tom, Robert, Hubert and Thompson and sisters, Lucy Powell and Dora Mae Hazelwood.

A funeral was held Sunday, April 8, at 3 p.m. at Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Barbara Gravely and Rev. Tom Warren officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
