James Joseph Thompson, 71, husband of Wanda Johnson Thompson, died Thursday, May 31, 2018. He was born on April 17, 1947 in Richmond, son of the late Roy King and Fannie Sue Bowman Thompson. James was a truck driver/owner operator for more than 30 years. He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Boydton.

In addition to his wife of 51 years, he is survived by a son, Kevin Thompson (Rhonda) of Boydton; daughter, Sherri Jones (David) of Red Oak; grandchildren, Levy Thompson, Dustin Jones, Ashley Jones and Grayson Jones and great-granddaughter, Sophia Thompson. Also surviving are nephews, Alan Edward, Jr. of Glen Allen and Andy Ezell of Bracey; brother-in-law, Chester Johnson (Janie) of Oxford, NC; sister-in-law, Anita J. Chandler of Clarksville and a special cousin, Jean Panther. A sister, Shirley Ezell, preceded him in death

A funeral was held Saturday, June 2, in the chapel of Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home with Revs. Ralph Moore and Jane Lyon officiating. Burial followed in Rehoboth UMC Cemetery, Boydton.

The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
