James Smith of Nathalie died on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at his residence at the age of 69.

Mr. Smith was born March 17, 1949 in Halifax County to Malinda F. Smith and the late James Edward Smith and was married to Elsie Barksdale Smith.

In addition to his wife of the home, Smith is survived by three daughters,
Danyell Smith (Michael Campbell) of Timberlake, N.C., Larie Smith Lake (Donald Jr.) of Clayton, N.C., and Stephanie Traynham (Lamont) of Scottsburg; 10 grandchildren; a great grandchild; three brothers, Vincent Smith, Charles Smith, both of Nathalie and Larry Smith (Sharon) of Florida; two sisters, Virginia Jones (Clarence) of Nathalie and Edmonia Coleman of South Boston; his mother-in-law, Margie Logan of South Boston and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Marvin Bowman eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing for family and friends will be on Friday, May 4 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the home of Lamont and Stephanie Traynham, 1022 Bagwell Drive, Scottsburg.

Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home.
