James Woodrow Wilson Jr., 74, died Thursday, June 28, 2018. Born in Halifax County on Aug. 11, 1943, he was the son of the late James Woodrow Wilson Sr. and the late Flossie Elliotte Wilson and was married to Patricia Averett Wilson.

James was a member of North Fork Baptist Church and a graduate of Halifax County High School, class of 1961. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and farming. He was employed as a sheet metal mechanic.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Wilson is survived by a son, David Wilson and wife Doris of Virgilina; grandchildren, Ashley Wilson, Heather Wilson and Cody Wilson; great-grandchildren, Emmett Womack and Jaden Evans; brothers, Henry Lee Wilson of Scottsburg and Larry Elliotte Wilson of Pocahontas, and sister-in-law, Judy Wilson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Waylon Watkins Wilson.

A funeral was held Saturday, June 30, at 3 p.m. at North Fork Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends on Saturday, one hour prior to the service at North Fork Baptist Church and other times the home, 3032 Red Bank Road, Virgilina. There was reception with light refreshments in the fellowship hall of the church following the service.
