Janie Susan Lowery Hudson of 8195 Philpott Road, South Boston died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at her home. Born in Halifax County on Aug. 22, 1919, she was 91 at the time of her death.

A homemaker, she was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Hudson is survived by three daughters, Louise East of King, N.C., Anne Wilkerson and husband Billy and Gayle Hammock, all of South Boston, three sons, Larry Hudson and fiance, Jodi Kouns of Comanche, Ok., Lucy Hudson of Alton and David E. Hudson Jr. and wife, Cindy of South Boston, grandchildren, Bridgett Watkins, Rusty East, Lori East-Tyler and husband, Joe, Liz Link and husband, Dale, W. C. “Buck” Wilkerson and wife Ally, Dana Walker, George Hudson and wife Kim, “Scooter” Thomas and wife Kristin, David Eudell Hudson, Jesse Lynn Pulliam and wife Karen, Linda Hammock, Lacy Hammock, III, Sherry Whitt, Angie Whitt, Heather Thompson and Presley Wayne Thompson and great grandchildren: Ashley Link, Morgan Link, Drew Link, Hailey Hudson, Anthony Hudson, Jasmine Hudson, Montana Hudson, Kerrigan Hudson, Raynor Pulliam, Cora Hudson, Ja’Lyn Tyler, Justin Tyler, Nadia Tyler, Gavin Wilkerson and Holden Wilkerson and a special friend, Charlotte Carter of South Boston.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Hudson Sr. her parents, Charlie and Susan Clara Hudson Lowery, a son, Emmett Whitt, a daughter-in-law, Barbara Hudson, a grandson William L. Whitt, three sisters, Berta Lowery, Rowena Lowery and Hallie Hudson and four brothers, Garland, Willie, Monroe and Marshall Lowery.

A funeral for Mrs. Hudson was conducted on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. at Shady Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Gorman and the Rev. Carl Hudson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
