Jean Carol Yancey Martin

Jean Carol Yancey Martin, 81, of South Boston, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2020. She was born in Halifax County on Aug. 1, 1938, daughter of the late James Henry Yancey and the late Gerdie Lou Smith Yancey. She was married to the late Ronnie Lew Martin and was a member of Glenwood United Methodist Church.

Ms. Martin is survived by her son, Gregory Dale Martin and wife Carla of Moore, S.C.; three grandchildren, Kimberly Guthzeit and husband Thomas of Moore, S.C., Catherine Renfro and husband Chris of Alpharetta, Ga., Keri Lynn Idol of Kernersville, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Ava Renfro, Ryker Guthzeit and Marlo Hooper.

Her daughter, Cheryl Lynn Idol, grandchild, Barrett Martin and two sisters, Lorene Y. Granger and Lucille Y. Covington, preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Feb. 21, at noon at Glenwood United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Betty Marshall officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.
