Jeanette P. Newton

Jeanette P. Newton, 95, of Scottsburg, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2017. She was born in Halifax County on April 20, 1922, a daughter of the late Charlie Hagood Powell and Anne S. Powell. She was married to the late James William Newton and was a member of Scottsburg Baptist Church.

Ms. Newton is survived by two daughters, Doris Hupp of South Boston and Florence Conner and husband Tony of Halifax; two sons, Tommy E. Newton and wife Holly of Scottsburg and Dean Newton and wife Jeannie of Scottsburg; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and seven sisters.

A funeral was held Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to service.
