Mr. Saunders was born in Charlotte County, March 25, 1950 to the late Garfield and Negoldie Allen Saunders. He received his education from the Mecklenburg County Public Schools and was previously employed by Richfood Holding Corp. Inc. of Richmond. Mr. Saunders was a member of First Baptist Church, Wylliesburg. Jesse was preceded in death by six brothers, Junius, Irving, William, Roosevelt, Nathaniel and Harvey Saunders. Cherishing his memory are two daughters, Monica Johnson and Natasha Saunders both of Richmond; four grandchildren; one brother, Nelson Saunders of Drakes Branch; one sister, Margaret White (Percy) of Chase City; one sister-in-law, Ester Saunders of Roanoke; one aunt, Toria Hughes of New Jersey; devoted family friend Florence B. Saunders and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends. A funeral for Mr. Jesse L. Saunders will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2010 at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, with Rev. Dr. James E. Scott, officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Drakes Branch. The family will receive friends Friday from 12:00 Noon until service time.
