Jessie Edgar Martin, 87, of 1014 Wagstaff Lane, Scottsburg died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on Feb. 2, 1924, a son of the late Henry Martin and Willie Mae Francis Martin. He was married to the late Lucille Wagstaff Martin and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Dianne M. Hudson of South Boston and Darlene M. Strickland and husband Tommy of Halifax; two grandchildren, Troy Everette Strickland and wife Jessica, Jessica Strickland Tomlin and husband Allen; four great-grandchildren, Abby Tomlin, Ashlyn Strickland, Grant Strickland, Luke Tomlin; one brother, Robert Martin of Halifax; one sister, Nora Franklin of Scottsburg. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Faye Martin, three brothers, Letcher, Lawrence and Clyde Martin and four sisters, Hester Newton, Lula Irby, Ruby Saunders and Oakley Saunders.

A funeral was held Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Glenn Lutz officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Bethel Baptist Church.
