Jessie Younger Johnson, 98, of 1110 Asbury Church Road, Halifax died Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Woodview Sentara Nursing Home. She was born in Halifax County on Feb. 18, 1921, daughter of the late Frank and Estelle Younger. She was married to the late James Johnson and was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her twin sons, Donald and Ronald (Juanita) of Halifax; a beloved grandson, Stephen Corey of North Chesterfield; four sisters, Florine Miller of Baltimore, Md., Edith Edmunds and Christine Edmunds, both of Halifax and Jugartha Byrd of Lawrenceville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A funeral was held Friday, Aug. 2, at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Willie L. Yancey officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Public viewing was held Friday from noon-1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church. The family received friends at the home of Ronald and Juanita Johnson, 1093 Asbury Church Road, Halifax.
