Jewel Dodson Saunders

Jewel Dodson Saunders, 80, of Nathalie, died Thursday, July 13, 2017. She was born in Halifax County on April 17, 1937, a daughter of the late Harry Dodson and Nolie Hall Dodson and was married to John Saunders. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone, where she taught the Lamar Tribble Sunday School Class for 52 years. She served her community by being employed at South Boston Manor and Berry Hill Nursing Home and continued to visit the residents long after her retirement.

Mrs. Saunders is survived by her husband, John Saunders; two daughters, Kathy S. Reese and husband Phil of Paducah, Ky., and Judy S. Glass and husband Andy of Nathalie; two grandchildren, Jonathan Reese of Paducah, Ky., Rebeeca Reese and fiancé Tylor Gish of Paducah, Ky., one great-granddaughter, Peyton Marie Reese of Paducah, Ky., one sister, Florris D. Reid of Lynchburg; one brother, Edward “Shorty” Dodson of Nathalie and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara D. Clay, Geraldine D. Daniel and Alise D. Clay.

A funeral was held Sunday, July 16 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Millstone with Rev. Kris Cook officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends Saturday from 7-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at her home, 2070 Lennig Road, Nathalie.
